Nicolas Schmit
From minimum wages to workers’ rights, from opportunities for young people to tackling child poverty, Nicolas Schmit has led Europe’s social agenda since 2019 as European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights. An economist, he has served as a diplomat and government minister in Luxembourg, covering key portfolios including foreign affairs, immigration and employment. In March, Europe’s socialist and social democratic parties unanimously elected him as their Common Candidate for President of the European Commission.
